From the discovery of some tombstones in the area of Fasano, we can say that the community of Gardone Riviera was already inhabited in Roman times, around the seventh century there are testimonies of some settlements by the Longobards, the area went under the control of the bishop of Brescia and starting from the 16th century, it became an integral part of the Magnifica Patria, which asked the Venetians to support the Visconti incursions. Starting from 1521, the territory of Gardone Riviera became part of the Venetian territories. From 1921 to 1938, Gardone was the home of the poet Gabriele d'Annunzio.

Il Vittoriale degli Italiani is a complex of buildings, streets, squares, an open theater, gardens and streams built between 1921 and 1938 in Gardone Riviera, on the Brescia side of Lake Garda, by Gabriele d'Annunzio designed by the architect Giancarlo Maroni, in memory of the "inimitable life" of the poet-soldier and the Italians' businesses during the First World War. Often, for synecdoche, this name refers only to the house of d'Annunzio, located within the complex. The Vittoriale today is a foundation open to the public and visited every year by about 210,000 people.

The Garden originated in 1901 when a Czechoslovak doctor, Arturo Hruska, transferred to Gardone Riviera, a tourist destination for the mild climate, built a botanical garden. Since 1988 it has been owned by André Heller, an Austrian artist, who has arranged the Garden with species from all over the world. The botanical heritage meets the artistic panorama with sculptures by contemporary authors such as Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Mimmo Paladino and Erwin Novak. The garden is enriched by furnishings, such as paths, benches and walls, to lead tourists inside and amaze them. The visit is a journey through art, nature and continents like China and Tibet. At the center of the park has been recreated an alpine valley with small rocky areas that include pines, Nordic trees, cliffs, gorges, crevasses where water flows from three waterfalls and in the background the Dolomites. Around ponds covered with water lilies and lotus flowers, with carp and trout, streams, Zen water games that invite to meditation, waterfalls that gush from the rocks or gushes from bronze heads.
