Limone sul Garda

Tra storia e presente, un luogo ricco di emozioni

Limone was the scene of the battle between the army of the municipalities and Federico Barbarossa, who was defeated right here. The town of Limone, was the last village on the Brescia side, on the border between Austria and the Kingdom of Italy, was repeatedly contested by the Brescians and the counts of Arco, but in the fifteenth century it was under the control of the Visconti and subsequently passed to the Republic of Venice. During the world wars there was a strong rivalry between Limone and Riva del Garda, these countries began a smuggling of goods and people. The town of Limone remained almost isolated until the 40s when the road was built the Western Gardesana, before it was only reachable by boat, from the mountains or from the south, the opening of the road to Riva del Garda encouraged the development of tourism. Recent medical investigations have established that in the blood of the inhabitants of Limone sul Garda, there is the presence of apoprotein, a substance that prevents any type of arteriosclerosis. In Limone in 1831 the founder of the Order of the Comboni Missionaries was born, Daniele Comboni.
